Lipstick Stains

The vulnerable nakedness,

Of unspoken words,

Your lipstick stains,

Are like whispers,

On my cool skin,

Speaking things,

That would otherwise be forgotten.

The marks fade,

In the same way that you do,

Eyes averted,

Not a glint of love,

Of feeling.

A dimly lit room,

Window slightly ajar,

The hairs on my arms,

Stand on end.

Lipstick stains,

Cigarette smoke,

You’ve got me,

In your chokehold,

And the sirens roar.
