Silence

I’m aware of my silence,

I should speak up more,

Show an interest,

Offer an opinion,

But I get tongue-tied,

And the words escape me.

I’m aware of my silence,

I should show more personality,

Crack a joke,

Tell a story.

But my mind goes blank,

And I sink further away.

I’m aware of my silence,

But inside screams echo,

I want to come out of myself,

But my protective shell,

Is too strong.

I’m aware of my silence.

But you’re not listening anymore.

And now you’re gone.

And all that’s left.

Is my silence.
